CONSTRUCTION

This is the base for the cockpit it's 3ft. x 5ft. 5/8 in. composite wood with 1/2 x 3/4 framing.  This was made from two  3 x 4 sheets that cost $5.98 each.

Here's all the parts cut from 1/2 in. and 5/8 in. composite wood. It took three 5/8 in. 3' x 4'  sheets at about $6.00 each and three 1/2" x 4' x 6' sheets  costing around $8.00 each, the amp $75 and used speakers  $50.  The 21"  monitor was $150 used,  this whole unit screws together.

Seats panels cut and the speakers will be screwed directly to seat before it is covered. The original base in the background was 4' x 6'  which was too large and was cut down to 3' x 5'.  I designed as  I went, if you're not sure of what you want, make some plans! (even if you're sure, make some plans!).

No, not a toilet !  Seat assembled with speakers mounted. Left speakers in original enclosures, attach to hinged forms with long wood screws from seat side.

Test fit, side  armrest panels are 1/2 in. x 8in. x 28 in. long. Flipped metal grilles that came with speakers, now their concave and strong enough to stand on.

General assembly, sides are 45 in. long x 18 in. high, front is 36 in. x 18 in., back is 36 x 24 in. high, instrument panel is 36 in. x 15 in. high.

A side benefit from using the thicker composite wood is the unit is very sturdy. I can sit on the arm rests , stand on them or the seat with no problem. This makes getting in and out a lot easier I'm 5' 10" and weigh 195 Lbs.
Test fit of monitor and controls. From this point hard to split your time between test flights and actually finishing project.
Found piece of wood in garage that made perfect shelf for monitor and compartment for computer.
Foam padding for seat, after using the seat I now know I should have used twice as much padding, after about 30 minutes lost all feeling in butt! So I bought a cushion for the seat bottom. A small car seat would have worked just as well once a way of mounting the speakers was figured out. MAKE SURE YOU'RE COMFORTABLE  IN THE SEAT!
Home-made rudder pedals from one of the many sites about rudder pedals, cost about $10 to build. They work OK but would like to replace them with some Thrust Masters, or CH Pro Pedals in the future.
Got this wheel at a thrift store for $8.00 it had built in rudder and throttle pots. I removed them and put them on the rudder pedals and built a separate throttle that mounts on the yoke platform.
