 PICS 09/01

This is the completed Cockpit. It still needs final detailing like painting the interior panels etc. Here you can see the yoke mounted with the keyboard  on the seat. Altec Lansing satellite speakers are mounted  at  ear level, woofer is behind and under  control panel. The amplifier mounted on the side drives the seat speakers.

This shot is just above the seat, playing CFS, some glare from flash. Saitek X-36 HOTAS, PC Dash, touch pad and home-made rudder pedals comprise the controls. Lower right side of panel houses the CD Rom drive and floppy drive. Lower left is shelf that holds woofer, looks like it sticks out but  it  doesn't.

Front view showing computer with the motherboard and components mounted on a stripped down chassis. The next system upgrade  I'll just set a tower unit beside the simulator. This is a 400MHZ  Celeron overclocked to 500MHZ, the computer is built from used parts also.

The seat covering is just black sheet material. I had enough material and wood left over to make a couple of arm rests.

PC Dash and keyboard, OK I'll finish the interior paint soon. The  instrument panel graphics are from the Simpits International  website, graphics link, designed by  Prohm  whose cockpit gave me the inspiration to build my cockpit.
Keyboard removed yoke attached, the yoke and throttle are mounted on a wooden platform that attaches to the control panel with three Wing head bolts.
Battery and charger unit mounted on right side of cockpit. The battery is a small 12V sealed automobile battery with a $14.00 trickle charger. This powers the  250 watt amplifier and the speakers mounted in the seat back and bottom.
cropchyoke.jpg (59762 bytes) The CH Flight Yoke USB works great for the civilian sims, much better than a joystick, however there is a potential problem. The yoke is USB and my stick and rudder  are game port (analog) devices. You can mix these on some newer sims but not on the older ones.
